On May 27th, 10th and 11th-grade students from our school visited the KUMU Art Museum.
Students worked in groups to complete interactive tasks in English, which allowed them to combine immersing themselves in art with practicing their language skills. The goal of these assignments was to explore the museum’s exhibitions and answer questions about various works of art.
During the museum quest, the students discovered the creations of both Estonian and foreign artists, gaining insight into different art movements and the cultural backgrounds of the pieces. By discussing the themes, moods, and artistic techniques of the works, they learned how to build arguments, listen to their classmates’ opinions, and interpret art together. This format of work provided a fresh perspective on school subjects like history, literature, music, and foreign languages, demonstrating how they all integrate within the world of art.
Our visit to KUMU showed how modern technologies can make learning more engaging and transform a museum into an active educational environment. For the students, it was not just an encounter with art, but also an opportunity to develop communication skills, critical thinking, teamwork, and English language proficiency.
This day was a wonderful example of how learning can extend beyond the walls of the classroom, making education more exciting and diverse.
